Overview

As we age, as a result of hormonal changes, sun exposure, and other lifestyle factors, we begin to notice changes in our skin’s texture and elasticity. Fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear, and our skin begins to look dull and lacklustre. Fortunately for Kelowna and Okanagan Valley patients, there’s a non-invasive, no-dowtime solution: the vampire facial®. A vampire facial® with EmCyte® PRP (platelet rich plasma) is a natural treatment that uses a patient’s own blood platelets to repair and rejuvenate the skin.

How it Works

PRP stands for “Platelet-Rich Plasma”, and the treatment involves the application of a patient’s blood plasma to the skin to promote the healthy activity of skin cells. Prior to treatment, the patient’s blood is drawn and placed into a machine called a centrifuge, which spins the blood to separate red blood cells from the plasma needed for treatment. The blood plasma is applied to the face, and microneedling is performed to aid with absorption. The platelets found in this plasma provide essential growth factors that promote collagen production, healing, and tissue repair, among other things. The result is radiant, rejuvenated skin.

Recovery & Results

A vampire facial® with EmCyte® PRP typically takes less than an hour. Because it involves microneedling, some mild redness and swelling—similar to a sunburn—may be present post treatment. Patients can anticipate this to dissipate within 24 hours. Results will continue to improve over the next three to four weeks as your skin adjusts and renews itself. The number of treatments required will be different for each patient, but regular maintenance treatments may be recommended for best results.
